Headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, American Investors Life Insurance Company (AIL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the AmerUs Group. In 1997, AmerUs Group (formerly AmerUs Life Holdings, Inc.) located in Des Moines, Iowa purchased American Investors Life. AIL's primary focus is on fixed and equity-indexed annuities.

C.A.R.E Program is a non qualified deferred commission arrangement. The agent must write $1 million of Net Premiums in a calendar year in order to be eligible for an allocation of CARE credits that year. CARE credits are awarded based on the premium of the agent’s in-force policies on AIL’s book for every qualifying year. It’s a 5 year vesting program.
